1 1/2 lbs. dried codfish
1 sm. green pepper
3 lg. onions
2 c. flour
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. black pepper
Paprika to taste
Hot pepper sauce or crushed red pepper (opt.)
Soak dried codfish for several hours and then boil in new water for 25 minutes or to point of softness. Also until it is salty to taste, but not too salty. Break fish into small pieces and place in a bowl. Finely chop green pepper and onions and add to fish. Mix well. Add flour, baking powder, eggs, water and spices. Mix thoroughly. (Additional water and flour may be used if necessary. Mixture should be of medium consistency, not too thick or thin.) Shape mixture into small cakes, or drop a teaspoonful into deep hot oil and fry. Serve warm.
