Inlagd Sill

1 lg. herring
1/2 c. vinegar
2 tbsp. water
10 whole allspice, crushed
2 springs fresh dill
1/3 c. sugar
2 tbsp. chopped onion
5 peppercorns, crushed


Clean, skin and debone the fish. Cut into thin slices. Combine remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, simmer for a few minutes. Cool; strain and pour over fish. Allow to marinate 24 hours. Serve with sour cream.
